InfiniCortex adds new nodes in Poland and France
The rapidly expanding InfiniBand-based Global Supercomputer Fabric now reaches east from Asia into Europe using Obsidian's Longbow and Crossbow technologies
Frankfurt, Germany ISC2015 – July 13, 2015 – Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research Computational Resource Centre (A*Star CRC) is leveraging technologies from Obsidian Strategics to enable the InfiniCortex - a mechanism to efficiently aggregate globally distributed HPC resources using the highly efficient InfiniBand protocol. At ISC 2015, equipment located in Singapore, Poland and France simultaneously operate on single HPC workloads across more than 30,000km of fibre distance.
Building on the existing network connecting Singapore to the US via SingAREN, a Tata communications trans-Pacific circuit and ESNet within the continental US, a new ESNet trans-Atlantic circuit connects to Amsterdam. Once on European soil, a GEANT/PSNC link brings in the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Centre (PSNC) and a RENATER circuit the University of Reims Champagne (URCA)'s ROMEO HPC Centre Group.

“One InfiniCortex demonstration features extreme data set migration between Singapore and Reims and Poznan using Obsidian's dsync+ software,” explains Artur Binczewski, Manager of Networking at PSNC, “while another renders high fidelity real time multi-site collaboration using QCG-Vis in-situ visualisation services across the InfiniCortex between Poznan and Singapore.”
